Light Chaser Paperback – August 24, 2021. In Peter F. Hamilton and Gareth L. Powell's action-packed sci-fi adventure LIGHT CHASER, a love powerful enough to transcend death can bring down an entire empire. Amahle is a Light Chaser – one of a number of explorers, who travel the universe alone (except for their onboard AI), trading trinkets for life stories. But when she listens to the stories sent down through the ages she hears the same voice talking directly to her from different times and on different worlds. She comes to understand that something terrible is happening, and only she is in a position to do anything about it. And it will cost everything to put it right. Editorial Reviews. Review. I almost didn't read this because this guy wrote a dismal review that included spoilers: Henrik Mejnhardt Nielsen Amazon won't let me comment on his review anymore because they removed that function but I want to warn people against that clumsy review. I am lucky I went with my gut because it was wonderful, amazing, and very stimulating and entertaining. I kept reading this story when I should have been sleeping, that is how much I enjoyed it. The ending at the begining, and the begining at the ending was a nice touch. The science of this Si-Fi story was very compelling, and the action was not over the top. I did NOT recieve a free copy, I purchased this book. This is an amazing piece of storytelling. It is both sweeping in it's scope and theme and intimate in its portrayal of the central character. Beautifully crafted writing and a truly wild ride. I absorbed this in one sitting. After being offered far too many mindless war porn scifi novels by Amazon I found this to be a gourmet meal indeed. Bravo to these two writers. Here's hoping they write many more. Let me first say that prior to reading Light Chaser, I’ve read three books by Gareth L. Powell (Embers 1—3) and everything written by Peter F. Hamilton. How two people can write one book, I’ve never understood. Personally I don’t think I could’ve done it. Anyway, it turned out rather well in this case, and I truly enjoyed it. I also think it could be a very good movie. it is a story that keeps you reading, it is fast paced and creates some mystery that you want to unravel . having read most of Mr Hamilton books, I was expecting a more elaborate plot and deepness. as I read this book in kindle I have no sight on the number of pages, but felt it was over too soon. despite these remarks, I am anxious for a next story. keep going ! Very well written, thoroughly immersive prose. A very innovative premise. Evocative and not unlike my own secret dreams. There is everything to recommend about this book. Well suited to those who like Hannu Rajaniemi. Imagine off we hadn’t lost 500 years of invention and innovation, then expand that out across the Galaxy. We’ve been had! Great book btw. A journey of discovery is enmeshed with shards of past lives lived to produce a more excellent future for mankind. Top reviews from other countries. This was almost very good. The basic idea was good and merited a full book, potentially much more interesting than the authors Void books. It started off well and made me very interested in the character and the reality she inhabits. It develops nicely showing different characters interacting across time and opening up potentially great stories which don’t get developed. Then the ship/captain just appears with a load of great tech ideas and wins her battle in a few pages with almost no resistance. There was potential for a hundred great pages to get her to that point and potential for a really interesting and exciting battle. Then it finishes up a few pages later. Very few authors have the imagination to come up with this interesting scenario and it’s an absolute shame to see the author waste it on a drastically truncated short story. It's a tough problem. The person to be communicated with is an immortal who spends her time circling through inhabited space at 97% of the speed of light collecting memories. She stops off at planets every two millennia to collect memory necklaces that store the lifetimes of people on each planet she visits. It is these stored memories that are the basis of the solution to the problem. This is not Hamilton at his best. The book is light weight but is still a good read. It feels as if it was written to provide the backstory for a new series of books that I expect we will be seeing soon. Probably the biggest issue with the plot is that its conclusion, which is where the book starts, destroys the time line in which the plot is set. Very strange. Time travel without time travel? Weird. Over all I enjoyed 'Light Chaser'. Giving it a rating was difficult. The core plot idea is too good to get three stars but is it worth the four that I have awarded? On balance, I think so. I am not too keen on the central fantasy element, but it is well used. And I just loved the two methods used to disable AIs that are controlling their masters. One was first used over half a century ago in the film '2001'. The other is novel and very clever. Taking this element into account 4 stars is the rating that I am content with. A long novella that begins with the end and vice versa. The middle comprises vignettes of a few ci
